El 27 de julio de 2011, la Gerencia Municipal de Urbanismo aprobó el proyecto básico de reforma del Mercado de Salamanca, una joya de estilo neomudéjar obra del arquitecto Daniel Rubio, enclavado en el barrio del Molinillo. Poco antes, había sido incluido en el Catálogo General del Patrimonio Histórico Andaluz. Las obras de reforma comenzaron, tras una larga espera, en abril de este año, pero tan sólo unos días después ya se detectaron problemas que han obligado a una paralización total de los trabajos. Ahora, habrá que modificar el proyecto, lo que no podrá costar más de un 35% en relación al importe de adjudicación, pero obligará a un sobrecoste, algo que denuncia Adelante Málaga, que cree que las cuestiones podrían ser imprevistas pero no imprevisibles.
